Instagram is the platform where the first question is not whether the number is real, but whether there is a number at all. Reels and video posts show a public play count. Photos and carousels of photos do not, and their reach is private to the account owner.
A Reel has a play count anyone can see. A photo has likes and comments and nothing else. A tool that reports a photo's views is showing you an estimate; this one says the post has no view count and reads the likes and comments against the account's own norm instead.
The reference that matters is the same account's typical Reel: same audience, same niche, same format. Many times the usual plays with barely more likes is the pattern; a Reel that genuinely travelled brings likes with it.
Bought plays come with nothing attached. Real ones leave likes, comments and, on Instagram in particular, saves and shares · which is why a huge play count with almost no comments under it is worth a question.
One reading cannot show how the plays arrived. A drip feed delivers the same number every hour and a dump lands in one block; both look like a big number until there are two readings to compare.
Instagram counts a Reel play when the video starts, and the play count is the number shown publicly under the Reel. Replays are included in the plays figure, which is why Reels counts are higher than the number of distinct people who saw it.
Reach · how many separate accounts saw the post · and impressions are a different thing entirely, and they are private. They appear in the professional account's own insights and are never published, for Reels or for photos. This is the single most misunderstood thing about checking an Instagram account from outside, and it is why an honest tool will tell you which posts it could read.
For a photo post there is no public view figure of any kind. What can be read is the likes and the comments, and the useful question is whether those sit where the account's other photos sit. A photo with a tenth of the account's usual likes says something; a photo with "0 views" says only that nobody published a view count.
Both accounts have about 120,000 followers and usually get 90,000 plays on a Reel with a 5.8% like rate.
Reel B looks the same whether the plays were bought or the Reel was promoted through Instagram's own ads. The result says what was measured and asks which it was, because from outside the platform those two are indistinguishable · and one of them is a perfectly ordinary thing for a brand to do.

A Reel that reaches beyond the account's followers is liked by a smaller share of that wider crowd, so the rate falling is expected. The likes not growing at all is not.
